As the mesh runner craze maintains its position in fashion and sneakers, New Balance has capitalized on its extensive catalog of silhouettes, particularly with the 1906R model. The 1906R, a retro-inspired runner, has become a canvas for numerous high-profile collaborations, transforming it into a sought-after piece in sneaker culture. Notable collaborators such as Salehe Bembury and Kith have already left their mark, with upcoming renditions from Action Bronson and Jack Harlow generating significant buzz. The Parisian-based art collective, record label, and multi-hyphenate 99GINGER is set to add its distinctive flair to the model following the reveal of a Friends and Family iteration earlier this year.
The 99GINGER x New Balance 1906R Snakeskin features a dark green patent leather base with an intricate reptile pattern, providing a luxurious yet edgy aesthetic. Black accents are strategically placed throughout the design, enhancing the overall look, with black leather panels adorning the mudguard, midfoot, and heel. Mesh inserts on the side of the toe and midfoot provide contrast, balancing the patent and smooth leather's look with a more subdued texture.
The sneaker is further embellished with 99GINGER branding on the tongue tag, maintaining a cohesive and branded appearance. The 1906R and N logos remain in their traditional spots, ensuring brand recognition. The heel features a black TPU lattice heel counter, adding structural support and a modern look. Inside, the 99GINGER-branded insole is finished in a royal blue hue, adding a pop of color contrasting with the darker exterior. Completing the design is a blacked-out foam and rubber sole unit, borrowed from the New Balance 860v2 silhouette, which provides comfort and traction, making it perfect for everyday wear.
The 99GINGER x New Balance 1906R Snakeskin will release in June 2024 through 99GINGER, New Balance, and select retailers online and in-store.
